So many plans, so few weekends!
I've recently been booking up my weekends like crazy! I have some really exciting stuff coming up too:) Last weekend was a total blast, I started with a work party at a PI's house (the one who works next door to our lab). He had a going away party for the tech in their lab, Mike, who is also a very good friend of mine. He's moving to Pennsylvania to start a new job and live with his girlfriend. The following day, Mike and his friends and I went camping at a local state park. There was a nice little creek/river next to our campsite that we all walked down and played on a rope swing downstream. Good times, good times:) Then that Sunday there was another work party hosted by a post-doc in the lab next door to introduce her baby to everyone and celebrate a half-birthday for her. What a weekend! This whole week since then has been busy and sad because our lab neighbors moved away from us to join all the other labs in a newer bigger building. Unfortunately, we don't have enough money (as a lab) to move to that building, so we're stuck here with no one around us anymore:( It's a good thing we get along, since we're going to be spending so much more time together as a lab! It's also been a sad week for me because of Mike leaving. I had to say goodbye to him yesterday, and it wasn't easy at all. This, coming less than a month after I had to say goodbye to Tim, my other closest guy-friend. Not fun. But, I understand their reasons for leaving, and I'm confident that we'll see eachother again sometime (hopefully) soon. In fact, I just saw Tim on Thursday:) He had to come through town to wrap stuff up with his old landlord and ride with his friend up to New York to pick some stuff up from his dad's house. We spent the night with a bunch of work people at another going away happy hour for Mike... He seemed to have a lot of going away parties, thrown by the same people... I guess that just shows him how much we care:)
Well, now that all the parties are over you might think I'm done for the summer... NOPE! I still have a lot to go:) For starters, I've been asked to be Emilia's maid of honor in her wedding which is September 1st. Since all of her family lives in Romania, I thought it fitting to play host to her wedding shower. I've teamed up with her two soon-to-be sisters-in-law and we are having the shower next weekend up in northwestern Ohio (where they live). She's so excited about all the plans for the wedding that she can hardly contain herself! It's funny too, because she's such a "doer" and helper that she keeps asking what sort of planning she can do for her OWN shower!! Every time she asks, I just tell her to leave it to us, but I guess it's part of her culture because she has told us before about birthdays in Romania. Apparently, if it's your birthday you have to make your own cake, and take everyone out to dinner on YOU! Thusly, I gather that if you're having a party in your honor, you have to throw it yourself in Romania. Not here though, at least not if I'm involved:)
Moving on, I have a very busy October planned. The first weekend I'm going white water rafting!! A bunch of people from another grad program have invited me along to some river down in West Virginia for the weekend. My friend Nael said he's bringing some fishing gear, so I'm sure we'll try to fit that in at some point over the weekend too. I'm hoping to get some more fishing in before the summer is over though. Then after that weekend, Tonya is coming down to visit me and attend a conference. I'm looking forward to having her over again, though I'm not sure she'll want to spend too much time at the meeting itself;-) That next weekend is "off" for me, at least for now. We'll see what happens though. Then the last weekend of October is when I fly out to California to see Brett and Jessica!! Woohooo!!:) I'll be spending an entire week there basking in the sun (avec beaucoup de sunscreen of course) and enjoying their new pretty house with them:)
At some point during all of this, I plan to work and catch up on my sleep. I feel like I'm missing an important weekend of activities, but it seems like I have enough already:)
As you can tell, I've decided to blog a little more... It won't be extremely frequently, but hopefully I'll get to do it about once every couple weeks. Thanks for reading though!!
